Two paving textures used to separate cooking from sitting, with a stone bar and granite counter built along the outside edge.
One patio, read as two spaces, without a wall between them.
Where a patio has to do more than one job, the paving can do the dividing. Here a tumbled cobblestone field marks the working end of the terrace, and a smooth large format paver surface marks the dining end, with a cut stone step and landing between them.
The framework
The bar runs along the outer edge: a brick and stone base carrying a full granite counter, with an under-counter refrigerator and storage built in below, and a raised granite bar top facing the lawn so people can sit at it. A low stone wall and steps connect the terrace back to the covered porch.
Planting and finish
Narrow planting beds are cut into the paving against the house and edged in brick to keep the line crisp. Wall lighting is set under the counter overhang and into the steps.
